The Indian Navy launched a search and rescue mission after receiving a distress call from Iranian warship IRIS Dena, which was shot by a US torpedo on March 4, killing most of the sailors on board.
At least 130 people were on board the ship when it was struck by a torpedo, with over 80 people confirmed dead and 32 rescued by Sri Lanka.
The Indian Navy deployed aircraft, including a maritime patrol, and a vessel to locate and rescue the Iranian warship, which was heading back from India after participating in a maritime exercise in Vishakapatnam last month.
INS Tarangini and INS Ikshak were also deployed to aid in the rescue efforts, although the search and rescue efforts were primarily undertaken by the Sri Lankan Navy and other agencies.
