Union Home Minister Amit Shah directed a high-level committee to study demographic changes in border districts, metro cities, and industrial towns due to illegal migration and other unnatural causes.

The committee, chaired by retired Supreme Court judge Justice Prakash Prabhakar Naolekar, will assess demographic changes across India and suggest measures to address these challenges.

Shah emphasized that demographic change is a serious issue linked to national security, law and order, social structure, and tribal society.

The committee will conduct a scientific evaluation of demographic changes, examine their causes, and suggest policy, legislative, and administrative interventions.

It will also identify underlying factors behind demographic changes, recommend a mechanism for identifying and deporting illegal immigrants, and analyze structural population changes at the level of religious or social communities.
