The Indian government has established a high-level committee to address demographic changes caused by illegal immigration and other unnatural factors, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Tuesday.
The committee, headed by retired Supreme Court judge Justice Prabhakar Naolekar, has been tasked with examining demographic changes and recommending measures to deal with the challenges.
The committee has been given a year to submit its report, with the option to extend its tenure by up to six months.
The committee's terms of reference include conducting a comprehensive assessment of demographic changes, analysing patterns of population changes, and recommending policy, legislative, and administrative measures to address the issue.
The committee will also propose a comprehensive policy framework to enhance coordination between the Central and state governments on matters related to illegal immigration and demographic imbalances.
