India has welcomed the US-Iran ceasefire, expressing hope that it will pave the way for lasting peace in West Asia. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said India has consistently advocated for de-escalation, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving the conflict.

The MEA noted that the conflict has caused immense suffering and disrupted global energy supplies and trade networks, highlighting the strategic importance of maritime routes. India reiterated its long-standing position that peaceful resolution through diplomatic channels remains the only viable path forward in the region.

The MEA statement added that India expects unimpeded freedom of navigation and global flow of commerce through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical artery for global oil shipments. The US and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire aimed at halting escalating hostilities and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
