India and Indonesia are on the cusp of a historic agreement to supply the BrahMos cruise missile system, with the two nations finalizing crucial details such as pricing and the number of batteries to be supplied.
The deal, expected to be worth $450 million, will make Indonesia the second foreign customer for the BrahMos missile, jointly developed by India and Russia.
Discussions on the deal began during Indonesian Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin's visit to India in November and President Prabowo Subianto's state visit in January 2025.
Indonesian officials have expressed interest in the naval variant of the BrahMos missile, with the Indonesian Navy chief visiting BrahMos Aerospace in January 2025.
As part of the deal, India has also offered to supply coastal defence radars and marine-grade steel to Indonesia, as well as service Russian-made Su-30 combat jets flown by the Indonesian Air Force.
