India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri represented the country at a UK-led meeting to discuss reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway for global energy supplies.

Misri joined representatives from over 30 countries, including France, Germany, and the UAE, in the meeting chaired by British Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper.

India reiterated its commitment to free and open commercial shipping and maritime security in line with international law, calling for safe and free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

The meeting comes as the US President Donald Trump said securing the waterway is a problem for other nations to address, while India is in touch with Iran to ensure unimpeded transit for Indian-flagged vessels.

Despite the UK-led meeting, securing safe passage for Indian vessels remains a complex matter requiring close coordination with the Iranian side.
