Kolkata, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has called for India to provide leadership in the maritime sector amid the escalating conflict in West Asia.

The Defence Minister said the situation in West Asia is 'highly unusual' and could impact the global economy.

He highlighted the importance of the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf region for the world's energy security, stating that disruptions in the area would directly impact oil and gas supplies.

Singh also noted that supply chain disruptions are not limited to the energy sector, affecting the economy and global trade.

He emphasized that as a major maritime nation, India has a responsibility to provide leadership with confidence, capability, and a clear vision in this era of changing global geopolitics.
