India has denied being part of any bilateral talks with the US on forming a coalition to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, currently blockaded by Iran. The Indian government stated that it has had no such discussions yet, despite a US official mentioning India as one of the countries being approached for help.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar clarified that Indian ships have been able to pass through the strait individually, with no 'blanket arrangement' with Iran. He noted that India and Iran have a relationship and that the conflict is 'something very unfortunate.'
The US energy secretary, Chris Wright, had earlier mentioned India as one of the countries that President Donald Trump was 'reaching out' to for help in reopening the strait. However, India has ruled out joining any coalition, with the government stating that it is not in any bilateral talks on the matter.
