The Union Cabinet has approved a 6-km extension of the Ahmedabad Metro to the city's airport and cleared the construction of Central government office and residential complexes in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh.
The Ahmedabad Metro extension will strengthen connectivity to key infrastructure projects planned in the city, including the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave, which is being built for the Commonwealth Games.
The project will be completed in four years and will connect the airport and the Commonwealth Games site, improving airport connectivity, supporting urban growth, and providing direct access to the sports enclave.
The Cabinet also approved the construction of a General Pool Office Accommodation (GPOA) complex and a General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) complex in Amaravati at a combined cost of about ₹2,534 crore.
The office complex will bring multiple Central government departments under one campus, while the residential complex will provide housing for government employees posted in the city, improving administrative efficiency and coordination.
