The Election Commission of India has directed district administrations in poll-bound states to ensure bank vehicles transporting cash carry a mandatory QR code generated through the Election Seizure Management System (ESMS).
The step aims to tighten surveillance on cash movement ahead of Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Assam, and West Bengal.
The digital tag allows flying squads and expenditure monitoring teams to instantly verify the legitimacy of cash in transit, revealing key transaction details such as the bank's name, vehicle registration number, and dispatch time.
Any cash found without the authorised code could be treated as suspicious and seized immediately.
The Commission has also imposed strict restrictions on the movement of such vehicles after sunset during the election period.
