India has managed to insulate itself somewhat from the ongoing energy crisis in West Asia, thanks to government efforts to diversify energy imports over the last decade, officials said.
The crisis, triggered by the war in the region, has hit several other countries, including Japan, the UK, Egypt, Turkey, Singapore, and South Korea, with shortages and rising prices.
India's government has taken steps to safeguard exports and ensure uninterrupted imports of essential commodities, including energy, fertilisers, and edible oils, from various sources, including Russia.
Oil prices have remained volatile since the US launched Operation Epic Fury on February 28, but India's officials say the current situation looks manageable.
Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri said in a statement that India's LPG requirements have been actively diversified, with cargoes secured from the US, Norway, Canada, Algeria, and Russia, in addition to Gulf sources.
