The ongoing LPG crisis in India has led to panic buying and queuing up outside depots and filling stations as people fear a shortage of cooking gas. Despite government assurances, the situation has worsened with mass closures of restaurants and hotels in Kerala and migrant workers returning to their native places ahead of Ramzan and elections in West Bengal and Assam.
Restaurant and hotel operators are trying to retain their staff from other states, fearing that if migrant workers leave now, they may not return until after the election. Authorities across the country have seized hundreds of LPG cylinders from black market sellers, with a large stock seized in Mumbai and 741 cylinders seized in Chhattisgarh.
