India's domestic production of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has risen to nearly 60% of its needs, a significant increase from 40% on March 18, according to the petroleum ministry.
The ministry's joint secretary, Sujata Sharma, said the country has sufficient inventory of crude and its refineries are operating at optimum capacity, leading to an increase in domestic LPG production.
India's annual consumption of LPG in 2025-26 was 33.21 million tonnes, with monthly data showing a sharp drop in March due to supply disruptions from West Asia.
However, with a two-week pause in the war and Qatar reiterating its commitment to supply LPG, prospects of imports have brightened, and the government has cut supplies to commercial consumers while ensuring 100% supply to over 332 million households.
