India's impressive economic growth has allowed it to overcome some of its most acute social sector challenges, according to the latest National Family and Health Surveys (NFHS) results.
The survey, conducted in 2023-24, highlights the success of government programs, such as financial inclusion and health insurance, with significant improvements in institutional deliveries, total fertility rate, and child nutrition.
However, the survey also raises concerns about lifestyle diseases, with close to one-fifth of men and women having high blood sugar and hypertension.
As India's demographic profile shifts towards an older population, the country will need to pivot towards managing evolving health challenges.
The NFHS data also shows impressive achievements in internet usage, health insurance coverage, and financial inclusion, with significant state-wise variations in the numbers.
