The Lok Sabha has cleared a ₹57,381.84 crore fund for the Economic Stabilisation Fund as part of supplementary grants for 2025-26.

Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said this would provide fiscal headroom to respond to global headwinds and unanticipated supply chain disruptions.

The fund was not part of the original budget but was mentioned in the revised estimate for 2025-26 with ₹50,000 crore allocated.

The government has approved a net supplementary demand for grants of ₹2.01 lakh crore for 2025-26, which will not change the fiscal deficit numbers.

The Economic Stabilisation Fund will be utilised to protect consumers from price shocks and make supply chains for critical commodities more resilient.
