President Droupadi Murmu has made significant changes in the country's administrative setup, appointing new governors and lieutenant governors in nine regions. Taranjit Singh Sandhu, a former diplomat, has been appointed as the new lieutenant governor of Delhi, replacing Vinai Kumar Saxena who will now be the lieutenant governor of Ladakh. Sandhu, a former Indian ambassador to the US, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and was fielded as the party candidate in Amritsar in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
RN Ravi, a retired IPS officer, has been shifted from Tamil Nadu to West Bengal, where he will succeed CV Ananda Bose. Ravi's tenure in Tamil Nadu was marked by clashes with the state government, leading to cases in the Supreme Court. He will now take charge in West Bengal, just weeks before the assembly elections.
The changes come as the country prepares for high-stakes assembly elections, with several key positions being reshuffled. Former Bihar assembly speaker Nand Kishore Yadav has been appointed governor of Nagaland, while Lt. General (retired) Syed Ata Hasnain will be the new governor of Bihar. Kerala governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar will discharge the functions of governor of Tamil Nadu, and Himachal Pradesh governor Shiv Pratap Shukla will be the new governor of Telangana.
