India has expressed deep concern over the rising violence against minority communities in Bangladesh, particularly the brutal lynching of a 25-year-old Hindu man, Dipu Chandra Das. The attack, which occurred on December 18, has added to the already strained relations between the two countries. India's External Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, condemned the lynching and called on the Bangladeshi government to bring the perpetrators to justice. He also highlighted the plight of minority communities in Bangladesh, citing over 2,900 documented incidents of violence against them during the tenure of the interim government. The tensions between India and Bangladesh have escalated in recent days following protests in Bangladesh over the murder of radical student leader Sharif Osman Hadi, which turned anti-India. The Bangladeshi government has rejected India's criticism, describing it as exaggerated media reports or cases of political violence. In a bid to ease tensions, India has called for free, fair, and inclusive elections in Bangladesh, which are scheduled for February. The country's interim government has banned the Awami League, the party of former premier Sheikh Hasina, from participating in the elections. The situation has taken a turn with the return of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader Tarique Rahman from self-imposed exile in the UK. Rahman has vowed to deliver safety and justice if his party wins the elections, while his mother, former PM Khaleda Zia, remains in intensive care in a Dhaka hospital. The law and order situation in Bangladesh has further deteriorated, with protests and vandalism reported in both countries. India has summoned the Bangladeshi envoy to protest against 'regrettable incidents' outside the Bangladesh high commission in New Delhi, while Bangladesh has suspended visa services at its missions in India. The situation remains volatile, with both countries calling for a proper investigation into the recent killings and violence. India has reiterated its commitment to strengthening ties with the people of Bangladesh and promoting peace and stability in the region.
