India Surpasses Brazil in Renewable Energy Ranking

India has moved up to the third spot globally in renewable energy installed capacity, surpassing Brazil, according to the Renewable Energy Statistics 2026. The International Renewable Energy Agency released the statistics as of December 2025.

India achieved a total non-fossil capacity addition of 55.3 GW during Financial Year (FY) 2025–26, with a total power generation of 1,845.921 BU and a share of non-fossil fuels in total generation reaching 29.2% in 2025–26.

India's renewable energy share in electricity generation reached 51.5% in July 2025, with renewables meeting 51.5% of the country's total electricity demand of 203 GW.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is working towards achieving 500 GW of installed electricity capacity from non-fossil sources by 2030, as per the Prime Minister's announcement at COP26.
