The upcoming Census 2027 in India will collect data on the sex of the head of the household, including transgender individuals, the Rajya Sabha was informed.
The Census will be conducted in two phases: houselisting and housing census from April to September 2026, and population enumeration in February 2027.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said that the questions for the first phase have been notified and will collect information on housing conditions, household particulars, and amenities available.
The second phase will collect demographic, socio-economic, cultural, and other details of every person in each household.
Rai assured that enumerators will undertake house-to-house field visits to avoid exclusion and that self-enumeration data will be confirmed before final submission.
Adequate training is being provided to field functionaries, and validation rules are incorporated in the mobile app to ensure data consistency and accuracy.
