Union Home Minister Amit Shah has unveiled digital tools and enumerator mascots for the 2027 Census, which will begin its first phase on April 1. The digital tools, developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, include a web map for creating blocks using satellite imagery, a secure offline mobile application for enumerators, and a self-enumeration facility for households.
The Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS) Portal is a centralised digital platform for planning, managing, and monitoring activities across administrative levels. The census will be conducted in two phases, with the first phase collecting housing conditions and assets from April 1, 2026, and the second phase collecting demographic and socio-economic details from February 1, 2027.
Over three million enumerators, supervisors, and officials will be engaged across the country to ensure complete coverage. The census will be conducted using secure mobile applications and will include caste enumeration.
