Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has called on the Indian government to take a proactive lead in demanding an end to the escalating West Asia conflict.
Tharoor argued that neither side is benefiting from the ongoing hostilities, with other nations suffering from severe disruptions in global oil, gas, and other supplies.
He stated that both American and Iranian objectives have largely been met, making continued conflict detrimental to global interests.
Tharoor warned that the region's instability is affecting the world, specifically noting disruptions to essential supply chains.
The current round of conflict in West Asia has witnessed fighting between Israel and the United States on one side and Iran on the other.
The conflict escalated following the assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with Iran targeting Israeli and US assets in several Gulf countries and Israel.
Iran has virtually closed the Strait of Hormuz, a critical transit route for global energy supply, due to the conflict in the region.
However, Iran has allowed Indian vessels to pass through the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz amid the conflict in West Asia.
