External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Monday urged all parties to exercise restraint in the escalating tensions in the West Asian region.

Jaishankar said that India has stakes in the stability of the West Asian region, with over 1 crore Indians living and working in the Gulf nations.

He highlighted that the ongoing conflict is of particular concern to India and that two Indian mariners had lost their lives in incidents related to the conflict.

The Indian Embassy in Tehran had facilitated the relocation of Indian students to places outside, and provided facilities for Indian nationals to cross over to Armenia and return to India.

Jaishankar emphasized that the region is key to India's energy security, with many important suppliers of oil and gas, and that supply chain disruptions and the climate of instability are serious issues.
