New Delhi: The petroleum ministry has advised six million households to switch to piped natural gas (PNG) for convenience, in a bid to avoid hassles of getting liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders amid a surge in panic bookings.
The ministry revealed that there are currently 15 million domestic PNG consumers and another six million households near PNG pipelines that can easily get PNG connections.
This move aims to slightly reduce pressure on LPG, with India having 333.7 million domestic LPG customers at present.
The government has prioritized natural gas supplies to the household and transport sector since March 5, maintaining supplies to essential sectors.
Measures have been taken to increase domestic LPG output by 30%, with the government directing Indian refineries to ramp up LPG output to meet the shortfall caused by the war in West Asia.
Uninterrupted LPG supply to households has been ensured, and customers are advised to avoid panic booking for gas cylinders.
