US Ambassador Sergio Gor has predicted that the India-US trade deal is 99% complete and will be signed in the next few weeks. The deal is expected to unlock prosperity for both countries and will be finalised after a US team visits India from June 1-4. The trade deal has grown significantly from $20 billion to over $220 billion in two decades, reflecting deeper engagement and stronger economic integration between the two nations.

The US is looking to conclude the deal before the mid-term elections in November, while India is cautious about agreeing to anything that may be disadvantageous to domestic producers and farmers. The deal is expected to cover areas such as market access, non-tariff measures, customs, and trade facilitation.

Gor also highlighted the growth in trade ties driven by innovation, investment, and high-value sectors such as digital trade, advanced manufacturing, energy, and emerging technologies. He noted that critical and emerging technologies are reshaping the global balance of power and that the US-India relationship is well-positioned to lead this charge.
