Former Indian Army chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane has shifted his focus to fiction writing, stating that he is now only into writing fiction. This comes after his unpublished memoir 'Four Stars of Destiny' sparked a row in the country's Parliament.
Naravane made the statement at a book-signing event for his novel 'The Cantonment Conspiracy', which was released last year. The novel is a murder mystery set in the Indian Army.
The row over his memoir began when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi cited excerpts from the book in Parliament, alleging that the BJP government's policy had been weak against China during the 2020 border hostilities.
Naravane has clarified that his memoir is still unpublished and pending government approval. The defence ministry has stated that it cannot be cited as it has not been authenticated.
The row escalated to the point where Opposition MPs brought a no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, which was eventually dropped.
