Benimadhab Barman, 60, a resident of Dakshin Masaldanga in West Bengal's Cooch Behar, has lost his voting rights as his name was struck off the electoral roll during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
Barman, who was granted Indian citizenship in 2015, is among hundreds of former enclave dwellers who have lost their voting rights.
According to the Bharat Bangladesh Enclave Exchange Coordination Committee, around 8,000 names came under adjudication, and around 360-370 names have been deleted from the voter list.
The former enclave dwellers are spread across six assembly constituencies in Cooch Behar district, with around 50% of their population concentrated in Dinhata.
The development has sparked concerns among the affected residents, who fear that they may be forced to leave India if they are unable to appeal the decision.
The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) has slammed the Election Commission of India, accusing it of being a BJP agent and not abiding by the Constitution.
