An IndiGo flight from New Delhi to Manchester was forced to make a mid-air u-turn and return to the Indian capital after flying for about seven hours on Monday.
The flight turned around while flying near the border between Ethiopia and Eritrea due to last-minute airspace restrictions linked to the ongoing tensions in West Asia.
IndiGo cited the evolving situation in the Middle East as the reason for the diversion, saying safety and security of customers, crew, and aircraft is of utmost importance.
The conflict in West Asia has been ongoing since February 28, with Iran hitting US bases across the Gulf region, and airspace in the region has been largely closed.
