Iran's ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, has assured that Tehran will ensure safe passage for Indian interests in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, despite heightened tensions in the region.
The remarks come as concerns grow over shipping disruptions in the waterway, through which a large portion of the world's oil shipments pass.
Iran's representative, Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi, claimed that the Strait remains open, but operational difficulties have created challenges for commercial vessels.
Ilahi urged global leaders to intervene and push for an end to the conflict, saying Iran had not initiated the war and was engaged in diplomatic efforts with the US before the escalation.
The US has dismissed concerns about the blockade threat, with the war secretary saying Washington is prepared to maintain freedom of navigation in the Strait.
