Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar revealed that the decision on strikes against Iran was made after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Israel ended. Modi's two-day visit concluded on February 26, two days before the joint strikes by Israel and the US on Iran that killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Sa'ar participated virtually in the Raisina Dialogue, stating that Israel has 'great relations' with Modi and India that have deepened over the years. However, he explained that the decision on the strikes was taken on Saturday morning, before Modi's visit.
The decision came after the collapse of negotiations between the US and Iran, Sa'ar indicated. He stated that Israel's military action aims to remove 'existential threats' from Iran, which continues its nuclear programme, develops ballistic missiles, and backs Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis.
Sa'ar suggested that a change in the Iranian regime might be necessary, citing the country's continued support for terrorist groups. He also emphasized that Israel is targeting Hezbollah because the group joined the war against the will of the Lebanese people, serving Iranian interests.
