A faculty member at Jamia Millia Islamia University has been suspended pending an inquiry over a provocative exam question that sparked widespread outrage. The question, which appeared in the BA (Hons) Social Work exam on Social Problems in India, asked students to 'Discuss the atrocities against Muslim minorities in India giving suitable examples.' The university swiftly formed an inquiry committee and took action against Prof. Virendra Balaji Shahare, the professor responsible for setting the question paper. An official confirmed that the university is committed to ensuring accountability and takes such matters seriously. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a student organization affiliated with the RSS, has also weighed in on the issue. They claim the question revealed an 'ideological imbalance' and presented society from a narrow perspective. The ABVP argues that the question contradicts academic neutrality and goes against the inclusive character of Indian society. The university has not yet confirmed the details of the specific question, but the incident has raised concerns about the importance of maintaining neutrality and inclusivity in academic settings. The suspended professor's headquarters will remain in New Delhi, and he will not be allowed to leave without prior approval from a competent authority.
