In a stern verdict, the Jharkhand High Court has ordered the state government to take action against officials who illegally allocated and registered land within the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) premises. The court's directive, passed on December 20, was in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Jyoti Sharma in 2018. According to officials, the court has directed the government to compensate individuals and residents who were evicted from the encroached land and caused trouble. The court has also ordered police to register FIRs against government officials who allegedly colluded with builders to encroach upon the hospital's land. The court was shocked to discover that the RIMS administration remained silent while constructions were being made on its premises, despite the PIL being filed in 2018. An inquiry by the Jharkhand Legal Services Authority revealed that 7 acres within the RIMS premises had been encroached. Following the high court's directive, the district administration started a demolition spree, pulling down buildings constructed on RIMS land. The court observed that the district administration and revenue authorities had records of the encroachment, but officials failed to take action, and records were manipulated to favor private parties. The case will be heard again on January 6, 2026. The court's order serves as a strong warning to officials who engage in such malpractices and highlights the need for vigilance in protecting public land.
