Allahabad High Court judge Yashwant Varma has resigned, bringing an end to the ongoing parliamentary inquiry into allegations of unaccounted cash discovered at his official residence in Delhi last year.
In a letter to President Droupadi Murmu, Varma expressed 'deep anguish' over his resignation, stating that it was an honour to serve in the office.
The move effectively halts the proceedings initiated under the Judges (Inquiry) Act, 1968, as the statutory mechanism for removal ceases to operate once a judge demits office.
Varma had been facing removal proceedings since August 2025, after a Lok Sabha motion was admitted, and a three-member inquiry committee was constituted to probe the charges.
