Kannada actress Ranya Rao and her associate Tarun Konduru Raju were cheated of ₹2 crore by a Ugandan gold agent who promised them a direct supply of gold from Africa.
Rao and Raju initially attempted to source gold from African nations, but after getting duped, they shifted their strategy and started purchasing gold within Dubai's local market.
According to the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) charge sheet, the duo smuggled over 127 kg of gold valued at ₹102 crore between March 2024 and March 2025.
They used a sophisticated method to illicitly transport the gold into India while evading customs detection, and Rao leveraged her family connections to obtain protocol assistance at Bengaluru airport.
