A 14-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by a police sub-inspector and his associate in Kanpur's Sachendi area. The incident occurred on Tuesday when the sub-inspector and the associate, a local YouTuber, kidnapped the girl in a moving SUV and took turns raping her. The survivor and her family have accused the police of apathy, claiming that they did not take action for 20 hours after the incident due to public outcry on social media. The Sachendi station house officer (SHO) was suspended for professional lapses and attempting to cover up the case. One of the accused, Shiv Baran Yadav, has been arrested, but the prime accused, Sub-inspector Ankit Maurya, is on the run. Maurya is the outpost in-charge in Bhimsen, where the survivor lives. The police have launched a manhunt for Maurya and have deployed four teams to apprehend him. The survivor's brother has alleged that the police made them sit for hours, forced him to change his complaint, and threatened them with money and intimidation. The accused, Yadav, has claimed innocence, but the survivor has identified him as one of the perpetrators. The police have seized the SUV used in the alleged crime, which belongs to Maurya. The Commissioner of Police, Raghubir Lal, has assured that Maurya will be arrested and dismissed from service once evidence is collected. This incident has sparked outrage and raised questions about the police's handling of the case. The survivor's family is seeking justice and wants the authorities to take swift action against the accused.
