At least nine people were killed in a devastating bus accident on National Highway 48 in Karnataka after a speeding container truck crashed into a private sleeper bus. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic as the bus erupted in flames, trapping passengers inside. According to eyewitnesses, the truck driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, possibly due to drowsiness, and veered onto the wrong side of the road, colliding with the bus. The impact caused a diesel leak, which led to a massive fire engulfing the bus. One survivor, Aditya, recalled the panic as the flames spread rapidly, making rescue efforts difficult. 'We broke the glass and tried to escape. People were screaming at that time. Some tried to save others, but the fire was spreading rapidly,' he said. The bus driver, who was carrying school children from Bengaluru to Dandeli, stated that the truck jumped the divider and came to the wrong side of the road. 'The truck directly hit the diesel tank of the Seabird bus. So I immediately slowed down my bus and veered to the left,' he said. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced an ex-gratia of five lakh rupees for the families of the deceased and ordered a thorough investigation into the accident. The CM expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and assured that necessary action will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
