The Karnataka government's decision to allocate an additional ₹10 crore for landslide rehabilitation in Kerala's Wayanad district has drawn criticism from the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party.

The grant, included in the third and final instalment of supplementary estimates for 2025–26, is aimed at supporting families affected by the 2024 landslide in Meppadi.

Leader of Opposition R Ashoka has questioned the timing of the move ahead of the Kerala assembly elections, alleging that the funds were intended to 'please high command leaders and save his chair.'

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah defended the latest allocation, saying it was guided by humanitarian considerations and that it was the government's duty to help neighbouring states in distress.

The supplementary estimates also include provisions for other expenditures, including ₹20 lakh for Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal's appearance before the Supreme Court and ₹10 crore for a visit by Karnataka government delegates to the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting 2026.
