Former Telangana MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha's newly-launched political party has been approved by the Election Commission of India (ECI) with the name 'Telangana Rakshana Sena' (TRS), not 'Telangana Rashtra Sena' as initially announced.

The ECI approved the name after Kavitha received a communication from the poll body, asking her to issue public notifications in two national and two local newspapers.

The party's name was among five proposed names, including Telangana Praja Jagruti, Telangana Jagruti, Telangana Rakshana Sena, Telangana Rashtra Jagruti, and Telangana Praja Sakthi.

Kavitha took to social media platform X, saying she had received a letter of approval from the ECI in person and thanked the poll body for granting her party's third choice, which has the acronym TRS.

The party's name change comes after Kavitha's father, KCR, renamed his party Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) in 2022, following an ambitious plan to expand the party nationwide.
