Kerala Cabinet Approves ₹1,200 Crore Relief and Development Packages

In a significant move, the Kerala cabinet has approved a series of relief and development packages totaling ₹1,200 crore. The packages aim to support disaster victims, fishermen, and various other stakeholders affected by recent natural disasters and other challenges. As part of the relief measures, the cabinet has allocated ₹58.45 lakh for 143 disaster victims whose homes were damaged in Pathanamthitta district since January 2023. Additionally, ₹48.20 crore will be distributed among 1,72,160 fishermen and their families to compensate for 14 days of lost work due to weather warnings between May 18 and 31, 2025. The cabinet has also decided to provide financial assistance to the dependents of three individuals who lost their lives in separate incidents. ₹3 lakh will be given to Kumari Akhil, the daughter of a murder victim, while ₹5 lakh each will be provided to the families of Jayaram, Michael, and Sundarapandyan, who died while cleaning a sewage tank in Idukki district. Furthermore, ₹21.93 lakh will be allocated to support 20 farmers and entrepreneurs who have taken loans under the Ujjivan Loan Scheme. The cabinet has also approved the upgrade of 20 reserve sub-inspector posts to reserve inspector posts, which is essential for supervising the operations of the Armed Reserve Camp. In addition, the salaries of certain posts at coastal police stations, including Srank, boat driver, and special marine home guard, will be increased. The cabinet has also approved beautification projects for the Heritage Village and AKG Memorial Hall in Kannur district, with financial assistance from KIIFB. The employees of the National Institute of Speech and Hearing will receive the 10th salary revision with retrospective effect from July 1, 2019. Moreover, the cabinet has approved an additional government guarantee of ₹400 crore for the Kerala State Backward Classes Development Corporation and ₹8 crore for the Kerala State Film Development Corporation for the successful implementation of the e-ticketing project in all cinema theatres in Kerala.
