A 1.5-year-old child in Kerala's Nedumangad died due to internal bleeding after suffering 51 injuries from brutal physical assault by his mother and her live-in partner, who were later arrested and sent to judicial custody.

The postmortem report revealed the toddler suffered burn marks on his feet and injuries in his private parts, indicating a prolonged period of abuse.

The couple, Akhila (24) and Ashkar (31), have been booked for murder and related charges under the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act.

Ashkar had a history of domestic violence and assault, with his first wife's mother testifying that he regularly battered her during their marriage.

The police plan to conduct a detailed investigation into Ashkar's past, following testimonies in the media.
