A first-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery student was found dead at a private medical college in Kerala's Kannur district, with his family alleging murder and casteist slurs.
The student, a native of Thiruvananthapuram district, belonged to a Scheduled Caste community and was found dead on the third floor of the college building.
His family claims he was pushed off the building, while the police are treating it as a case of suicide.
The family alleges that a senior faculty member, Dr K Ram, had repeatedly hurled casteist slurs at the student and remarked on his skin colour.
An audio clip of the student talking to his friend about the 'insult' he faced from teachers has gone viral on social media.
Following the allegations, Dr Ram and another faculty member, Dr Sangeetha, have been suspended by the college management pending inquiry.
