The Kerala High Court has achieved a notable milestone, with a 6% increase in case disposals in 2025 compared to the previous year. According to official records, the court disposed of 1,09,239 cases in 2025, up from 1,02,963 in 2024. Notably, individual judges have made significant contributions to this improvement. Justice P V Kunhikrishnan topped the list with 15,026 cases disposed of, followed by Justice C S Dias with 8,713 cases, Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas with 7,627 cases, and Justice C P Mohammed Nias D with 5,936 cases. However, despite this progress, the high pendency of cases remains a pressing concern. As of 2025, there are 2,07,081 civil cases pending, with 1,47,963 having been pending for over a year. On the criminal side, 50,785 cases await adjudication, including 34,835 cases that have exceeded the one-year mark. Legal experts point out that systemic challenges, such as understaffing and rising e-filings, continue to hinder the court's efficiency. While the Kerala High Court's improved disposal rate is a positive trend, sustained reforms are necessary to ensure speedy and effective justice delivery. The court's commitment to improvement, combined with targeted reforms, holds promise for a more accessible and equitable justice system in the future.
