Kerala Polls: UDF Finalizes Seat-Sharing Deal, Congress to Contest 95 Seats

The United Democratic Front (UDF) has finalized its seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming Kerala polls. The Congress will contest 95 seats, two more than it did in 2021, as part of the deal. The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) will contest 27 seats, unchanged from the last time, while the Kerala Congress (KC) will contest eight seats, two less than in 2021.

The Congress will take over the Ettumanoor and Idukki constituencies, which were contested by KC last time, as part of a one-time arrangement. The party will also take over the Thrikkaripur seat from KC and give the party the Kanhangad seat.

The Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) was allotted five seats and opted for the Payyannur seat, where it will support the candidature of Communist Party of India (Marxist) rebel V Kunhikrishnan. The Mattannur seat will go to the Congress.

The UDF, which hopes to dislodge the Left Democratic Front after a decade, will have declared all its candidates by Thursday. Kerala goes to the polls on April 9.
