Kerala's power minister K Krishnankutty has denied reports of 'load shedding' in the state, attributing disruptions to 'power dripping' due to high electricity consumption.

The minister convened a meeting of top Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) officials on Wednesday and clarified that there is no load shedding in the state at the moment.

However, he did not rule out the possibility of load shedding in the future, citing record levels of electricity consumption driven by heavy use of air-conditioners, electric vehicles, and induction stoves.

The state 'imports' over 70% of its power from other states and providers, and the minister stated that if it receives more power, the crisis will abate.

Rains over the last 48 hours have eased the situation, but protests have erupted in front of KSEB offices in districts like Thrissur and Kozhikode due to frequent disruptions.
