A 24-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide in Kerala's Kasaragod district, with her family accusing her husband and mother-in-law of prolonged domestic abuse and mental harassment over dowry.
The incident was reported on Saturday in Panalam, where the woman's husband has been detained and will be arrested soon.
The woman's family alleged that she was physically assaulted by her husband and her phone was snatched away when she tried to contact them.
She later drank a highly toxic cleaning agent in front of her brother and husband, and despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, her condition became critical and she died early on Sunday.
The couple, who have a two-month-old child together, married just over a year ago.
The Vidyanagar police have booked the husband on charges of abetment to suicide and cruelty against a woman by her in-laws.
