Ladakh was hit by a massive avalanche that killed seven people and injured five others, blocking the strategic Srinagar-Leh highway.

The avalanche occurred near Zoji La, burying at least 15 vehicles, and a major rescue operation is underway involving police, army, and other agencies.

Ladakh LG VK Saxena has directed the authorities to carry out relief and rescue operations, and the situation is being personally monitored.

The casualties are likely to increase as a few vehicles have been fully buried and rescuers are yet to reach them.
