Ladakh's Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta has resigned after serving less than nine months in office. He was appointed in July last year and has been replaced by Vinai Kumar Saxena.

Gupta, a veteran BJP leader, has held several key posts in the past, including speaker of the J&K legislative assembly and mayor of Jammu.

Under his tenure, Ladakh saw massive protests and unrest with widespread youth-led agitations. Civil society groups have been protesting for several reasons, including statehood and job reservations for locals.

Gupta has been appointed as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, while Saxena takes over as the new Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
