In a significant crackdown on organized crime, two hardcore Delhi gangsters, Vikas Gulia and Dhirpal, have been sentenced to life imprisonment under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). The duo was found to be involved in a string of serious offenses, including murder, extortion, and breach of the Model Code of Conduct. Investigators collected certified copies of multiple previous cases against the accused, revealing a pattern of sustained and organized criminal activity. Despite being granted bail in several earlier cases, the duo continued to engage in serious offenses, posing a significant threat to public order and safety. With the help of 59 witnesses and extensive documentary evidence, the prosecution demonstrated the continued unlawful activities of the accused. The court of Additional Session Judge Vandana Jain held the two guilty under Section 3 of MCOCA, sentencing them to life imprisonment and imposing a fine of ₹3 lakh each. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional year of imprisonment. This verdict is a testament to the effectiveness of MCOCA in curbing organized crime in Delhi.
