Madras High Court issued a notice to Tamil actor Vijay over a petition alleging discrepancies in his financial disclosures made in election affidavits for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

A bench of Chief Justice SA Dharmadhikari and Justice G Arul Murugan issued notices to the director general of income tax (Investigation), the election commission of India, and the returning officers for Perambur and Tiruchi (East) constituencies.

The court remarked that there seemed to exist a “significant irregularity” pertaining to around ₹100 crore in disclosure of assets made by Vijay in his affidavits.

Vijay declared assets worth ₹115.13 crore before the returning officer for Perambur constituency and ₹220.15 crore before Tiruchi East returning officer.

The petitioner claimed that over ₹100 crore difference remains unexplained and unsupported by documents.
