A Madras High Court judge has criticized politicians for involving children in their campaigns, saying it's inappropriate.

Justice GR Swaminathan made the remarks while hearing a plea against the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) for allegedly using children in its campaign during the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

The judge shared an anecdote from his own experience, saying his grandchild had urged him to vote for TVK leader and TN chief minister C Joseph Vijay.

Senior counsel S Muralidhar, appearing for TVK, responded by saying that kids are now telling parents what to do.

The court was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) petition filed by advocate L Vasuki seeking an inquiry into alleged electoral malpractices, including the use of children in campaigns.

The petition also sought an inquiry into allegations that members of the DMK and AIADMK distributed cash for votes in certain constituencies during the elections.

The court adjourned the hearing to July 1.
