The opposition in Maharashtra has demanded action against state leaders, including ministers, linked to Ashok Kharat, a self-styled godman arrested on charges of rape.
The opposition Shiv Sena (UBT) has demanded that NCP leader Rupali Chakankar, who headed a trust run by Kharat, be made a co-accused in the case, over her links to the accused.
Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar has forwarded Chakankar's resignation to CM Devendra Fadnavis for acceptance, while Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray slammed the state government over its alleged links with Kharat.
Leader Aaditya Thackeray added that the CM should conduct an inquiry into ministers linked to Kharat, with around eight or nine ministers being named.
Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar said Chakankar's resignation was not enough, and called for the checking of call detail records (CDR) of the ministers and political leaders seen with Kharat.
